Peng Chau AM Tower Project

Peng Chau AM Tower Project (Kintronic)

The Peng Chau transmitting station is a critical facility for AM broadcasting, serving prominent clients such as Commercial Radio Hong Kong, Metro Broadcast Corporation, and Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK). With a power level of 10 kW for each channel, it broadcasts on frequencies of 864 kHz, 1044 kHz, and 675 kHz, playing a vital role in delivering reliable audio content to listeners across the region.

Project Overview

Objective: The primary aim of this project is to provide a comprehensive turnkey solution for the replacement of the existing Medium Wave antenna system at the Peng Chau AM station. This upgrade will significantly enhance broadcasting capabilities and ensure continued service excellence for the consortium of RTHK, Commercial Radio, and Metro Radio.

Scope of Work

Dismantling and Construction: The project involves the meticulous dismantling of the existing transmission tower. In its place, we are constructing a new 92-meter triangular guyed tower, supported by six robust steel wires on each side. This design ensures exceptional stability and resilience against environmental challenges, optimizing performance in varied weather conditions.

AM Triplexing System: We are supplying and installing a state-of-the-art AM triplexing system from Kintronic Labs. This advanced technology will optimize signal distribution, ensuring enhanced broadcast quality and reliability for all channels.

Aviation Lighting System: To comply with safety regulations and improve visibility for aircraft, an aviation lighting system will be installed on the new tower. This feature enhances operational safety and ensures the tower meets all necessary aviation standards.

Grounding and Insulation: The project includes reconnecting existing ground wires to the grounding copper grid, which ensures effective electrical grounding. Additionally, we will install aviation obstruction lighting and insulators to further enhance the safety and functionality of the tower.

New AM Transmitter System: As part of this upgrade, BTL supplied and installed a new 10 kW AM transmitter system specifically for Metro Radio. This addition significantly boosts the station’s broadcasting capabilities, ensuring clear and reliable transmission to its audience

Conclusion
Successfully completed in May 2025, this project marks a significant milestone in enhancing AM broadcasting capabilities in Hong Kong. The upgraded infrastructure not only strengthens the service delivery of our broadcasting partners but also ensures that the Peng Chau station remains at the forefront of technological advancements in the industry. We are proud to have played a key role in this transformative initiative and look forward to supporting ongoing developments in the region’s broadcasting landscape.
